The 3" Lockback has been one of Santa Fe Stoneworks’ best-selling designs since the 1980s. Designed by renowned knife designer Phil Gibbs, this historic model combines compact proportions, dependable performance, and timeless style in a pocketknife made for everyday carry. Although its engineering and manufacturing have evolved over the decades, the original concept remains unchanged: a refined, reliable knife designed to be used, appreciated, and passed from one generation to the next.

This premium version features a precision CNC-machined stainless-steel frame and a 110-layer stainless Damascus blade with a distinctive Small Rose pattern. Textured titanium bolsters with a vivid green anodized finish provide a colorful modern contrast to the traditional lockback design, while brass washers support smooth, consistent operation.

Its excellent “walk and talk” action produces a crisp snap as the blade locks securely open and returns firmly to the closed position. The blade is digitally precision-ground and finished with a razor-sharp edge.

About the Blade Steel

110-Layer N690 and 440C Stainless Damascus — Small Rose Pattern

This stainless Damascus blade is forged from 110 alternating layers of N690 and 440C stainless steels, creating the compact, swirling Small Rose pattern. The combination provides excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, hardness, and durability. Vacuum heat treatment and a working hardness of approximately 59–60 HRC support dependable cutting performance, while the layered construction gives every blade a distinctive appearance.

Green Anodized Titanium Finish

The titanium bolsters are electrically anodized to grow a controlled oxide layer directly from the metal. By carefully adjusting the voltage, we create a vivid green color through light interference rather than dyes or paint. The result is a clean, luminous finish that preserves the bolsters’ crisp contours and textured surface without adding a thick coating.

Anodizing also supports titanium’s natural corrosion resistance. However, the color layer may show wear in high-contact areas if subjected to deep scratches or abrasion.

Select Grade Abalone Shell is carefully chosen for its exceptional iridescence, strong color, and remarkable visual depth. Abalone is a marine mollusk whose shell develops an interior layer of nacre, commonly called mother-of-pearl. Its microscopic layers interact with light to produce constantly shifting shades of turquoise, blue, green, violet, pink, and silver.

For thousands of years, abalone has been treasured by Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Coast as food and as a material for jewelry, trade, ceremonial regalia, tools, and decorative inlay. Its luminous shell traveled through extensive trade networks, carrying its beauty and cultural importance far beyond the coastline.

The shifting green, blue, violet, and silver tones of the Select Grade Abalone Shell complement the luminous green-anodized titanium bolsters.
